How do you squeeze in self-care activities during a busy week?

Today’s most careers demand 50 to 60-hour workweeks, resulting in unhealthy meals and quick and skipped workouts. Professional environments in today’s time encourage us to work faster and harder, often harming our health and well-being. Self-care is required for physical and mental health, but it’s often the first thing we drop when we find ourselves short on time. It’s really hard to be the best possible version of yourself without enough self-care. As a result, your work and relationships suffer.

If you ever feel like you don’t have any extra hours in the day for self-care, it becomes hard to know how to start fitting self-care into your week. You can create and maintain a self-care routine. Here are five tips that will help.

We must look after ourselves. We can easily overwork ourselves to become physically and mentally ill. If you’ve had a busy week at work and feel stressed and tired, you should take a break. I know it’s not always easy, and perhaps your boss is nagging you to work as much overtime as possible. If you think that you can do it, then go for it. However, if you’re exhausted and stressed, it’s not worth it.

Not taking time for yourself may impact your relationships with others, as you may become more irritable. If you’re trying to take care of someone else, you may find it difficult if you’re stressed out yourself. It’s also worth noting that self-care doesn’t have to take up all of your time. You can do something relaxing for 10 minutes and feel more refreshed to continue with your tasks.

Give yourself 10 minutes each morning

Studies show that just 10 minutes of mindfulness practice in a day gives you positive results. Mindfulness practices like meditation will boost self-awareness, decrease your stress, increase focus, improve performance, help control emotion, and improve sleep, to name a few. Being consistent is essential in mindfulness practice.

Set aside some time first thing in the morning to practice mindfulness. This is the time of day over which most people have the most control. Set your alarm for 10 to 15 minutes before getting up. Avoid checking your emails, Instagram, or Facebook. Launch an app like Insight Timer or Headspace as soon as you wake up and meditate for a few minutes. With the help of these apps, you can listen to guided meditations, which are ideal for beginners to ease into the practice.

Schedule your workouts like Office work

Getting regular exercise has so many benefits! It’s been proven to decrease anxiety, depression, and stress, help with weight loss, increase energy levels, improve brain health and memory, improve sleep quality, etc.

But, as a working professional, I understand how difficult it can be to find time to exercise on some days. Examine your schedule: is there a period when you don’t have any other obligations?

Put workouts in your calendar as recurring events. That way, you’ll handle your workout appointments as work meetings. If it helps, you can even give yourself a healthy life. A friend of mine, for example, puts $5 toward the shoes she’s been eyeing every time she goes to the gym!.

Invest in therapy

We sometimes need the influence of others to help us with self-care. Starting your self-care practices from a place of strength and stability is the best way to get started. This can aid in the prevention of a crisis.

A good therapist will assist you in becoming acquainted with the origins of your thoughts and behaviours. They can assist you in recognizing patterns and forecasting how your past and present affect you now and in the future. That being said, therapy is not intended to remove all feelings of sadness. It can assist you in developing the skills necessary to weather any storm.

If therapy isn’t your thing, think about hiring a personal trainer, a dietician, or a life coach. As mentioned in Tip 1, consistency is essential. Make sure to make a special note of it.

Meal prep

Finding the right time to prepare and eat healthy meals, like working out, can be an overwhelming challenge. Every Sunday, I recommend making a week’s worth of healthy food that you can quickly reheat for lunches and dinners. You can keep most of the food in your freezer to keep it from spoiling. Yes, this takes a few hours upfront, but it removes the time constraint for the rest of your week. Eating healthy becomes as simple as picking up a pastry from the Starbucks around the corner.

A healthy diet has numerous advantages, including improving your mood, protecting your bones, strengthening your immune system, increasing your brainpower, reducing insomnia, soothing sore muscles, and decreasing your cravings for unhealthy foods.

Set boundaries

When you start taking time for yourself on purpose, you may encounter opposition from those around you. If you get this kind of pushback, be firm about your needs and boundaries.

Remember, you can take 20 minutes for yourself, and the world will still be there when you return. You’ll also return to a much better, healthier state to deal with the world around you.

Self-care is not an indulgent luxury. It is not self-centred. Self-care is critical for your physical and mental health.
